Hiya!

I recently had the CV joint on the passenger side front on my 1993 200tdi disco replaced. However since then, a metallic squeaking noise has developed when I accelerate and a sort of squawking noise when I change down a gear or coast (in gear). The noise appears to be coming from the front axle, although I have had various people look at it and nobody seems to be able to pin point the location of the noise or indeed what is causing it! If anybody has had a similar experience or knows whats wrong, any help would be greatfully appreciated!!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Its not the fan belt, tightened that. Its not a stone in the mud shield and its not the wheel bearing, its been getting progressively worse. I didnt do the CV myself, I used a reputable local mechanic with plenty of Landrover experience. He serviced everything while he was at it, every fluid on the vehicle was replaced.

Will check drive flanges!

I replaced my swivel ball once and fitted a second hand half shaft and cv (swivel snapped and bent half shaft, long story)

Anyway I fitted it all together and the cv was too tight in the swivel, it was actually jamming the halfshaft against the hole in the swivel and the cv against the stub axle.

I assume it was the aftermarket swivel ball that was out of spec, but yours could be a similar scenario for some reason.

Theres supposed to be a brass bush on the inner side of the halfshaft which rests against the inside of the swivel, and a chromoly spacer which slots on the end of the shaft before the cv goes on.

If any of these are to big or missing, you will get tightness or alignment problems, which tend to make squealing noises!

Hth, cheers :)
