hi just convinced my hubby against his wishes to buy freelander for me.
v plate anver petrol model. anyway had to do cylinder head new, rear wheel bearings and a few minor bits . he's going mad cause now we have a mega scrapping noise when you drive. we thought brake stuck on but been checked and no. anyone any ideas as landrover want £100 to check and tell me what it is
i told you so and also i warned you are bouncing off me at the moment..........

sympathies to your husband as my wife convinced me of the same last summer and bought her 1.8 petrol. New head gasket (3rd), buggered sunroof, faulty blower switch, new exhaust blah blah blah later, she still loves it (and strangely so do I). Anyway we had problems with scraping noise at low to medium speeds and brake pads checked and deemed fine at time. Hoping it would break properly I let my wife carry on but when pads changed at service time (recommend finding good local landrover specialist if car out of main dealer warrnaty) noise disappeared and cross fingers nothing else gone wrong yet. Least this site provides wealth of info when things go wrong. This is my first casual vew of site as all previous visits have been because of things going wrong.

check to see if you have a stone, pebble or small japanese car stuck behind the back plate. you can usually flick them out with a screwdriver

got booked into lr specialist today I can feel it is going to cost a fortune and he aint gonna be happy. someone sugggested coupling and someone suggested a sensor box heres hoping as the scrapping noise is there constantly . have had all wheels off rear bearings changed brakes checked. will post and let you know the out come. i keep telling him that that is something else that won't need done after something else is replaced . i love my drover but don't know how much more he's prepared to spend

woah! sorry to hear that! but... specialists can be wrong, its rare but ... "condemn" (spelling) on one opinion. I had a rover that was blowing out enough blue smoke to fill a motorway across six lanes I went to a specialist rover dealer and he said that the rings had gone point blankly "it couldnt be anything else!) my dad had a look at it scratched his head and said (" Iknow whats wrong with that") "its the modulator valve in the gearbox sucking oil from the gearbox burning it in the pistons" £50 later and a new modulator valve and the cars brand new again... moral of the story dont give up just yet!
