Hi guys

Over the last 12 months i have been breaking down my mates disco for him and have got the axles off today so it is now down to a bare chassis.

will a scrap metal dealer accept the chassis cut into two halfs with the keepers form once i have delivered it on my trailer ?

I dont follow ...if its chopped up , its just weight of metal unless you declare it otherwise ...at least thats how its been when I have weighed in lorry chassis' in the past . Where are you taking it , may I ask ? I may be able to advise , have friends in the business .

if you have a new style logbook theres no scrap box to tick. you should be able to take it to a car breakers and theyll do it all for you but unsure weither a general scrapyard will.

Surely if its chopped up metal they wont bother ....will they ? As I say I have friends in the trade so what I get away with may not be what others need to do . Neither should my experience suggest that I or the forum encourage anything untoward .

my trailer is only 6ft ID long and 4ft ID wide so can't put the whole chassis in it or on it so cutting it in half to get it in then strap it all down and didn't want to take it there amd them say they can't accept the log book ( new style ) with it cut up.

i am taking it to I.J.KAYS in altrincham, cheshire, who are scrap metal recyclers and do the paper work for you as reguards the log book, they advertise on the telly about doing this and my son has used them when he scrapped his corsa but they collected the car and gave him cash for it and sorted the paper work out aswell but i want to take the chassis only to them as the rest of the car has gone :)

I cut robins old chassis up ansd weighed it in. never even asked for the logbook. just filled in the bit that said it was scrapped and sent it to dvla.

your must have had the older log books then as the new ones don't say anything on it about scrapping a car anymore so it gets a bit complicated if you haven't done it with the new log books before :)

Your fooked then cos if it int sorned you have to pay the backtax on it :D Oh and the fines for having an untaxed vehicle

Id be inclined to take it to a strictly metals yard and not mention vehicles at all , its just random box section steel . Isnt there a Simms yard near you ?
