Scrap value is currently £165/ton in essex, I fill my scrappers up with all my old exhaust/brakes/crap, usually get about £200-250 per vehicle, I currently have 3 waiting to go filled with old engines e.t.c. so hopefully a nice little pay day...

Pretty much any scrap yard will take any metal really. As has been said if you take your time and strip wiring e.t..c then there is more to be made, for me its just not worth it as I have to get through the cars in a reasonable time, I just take out running engines, boxes, window regs, lights and electronic components (ABS pumps e.t.c.), the rest is scrapped...

Head off block 10min with air gun at most and weigh in as dirty aluminium

got £160
yesterday

for 3 bags of copper pipe

1 of brass rad valves

and got paid to rip it out

perk to being heating engineer

well i did it...

filled the trailer with all the scrap.. got accosted by a pikey that nearly bust his nose on his steerin wheel when he braked as he drove past an saw all my loverly scrap goin on trailer... even offered me a fiver for it... got him up to forty quid b4 i told him i was weighin it in.. i guessed 500kilo.. he sed 200kilo..

i was right.... so £80 better off today..

even r lass was impressed...

cheers for the info guys... beers on me next time ya passin...

Sorry for the hijack. I have a 5 door disco. No doors, bonnet, seats, engine, gearbox, axles or bumpers. Basically just the body and chassis.
Does anyone have a rough idea what it would fetch if I weigh it in?

I would guess about 50 to 100 quid depending on where you take it.
I weighed a similar one in with just one axle and got 100 quid last year or the year before

Really. Got told nearly 200 near me. But it will be full of anything I can throw in.

Even my old td unless anyone wants it

Thats got to be a ton at least I would expect so at least £150, I wouldnt be surprised if its a bit more, discos aint light!

we fill a shagged car with mainly metal rubbish and it is like a mobile skip- currently have one to go soon full of car parts, lawnmower etc
,i know local scrap yard bloke fills them with mostly his yard ,profitably but will be in an awkward situation if it floods

I got £159 for my disco with no engine, gbox, props, or interior.

Weighed 1.2 tonnes. £130 a tonne here. Be sure to drain fuel out. I cut a hole and let it drain. Bout 15 litres!:):)

This morning i am weighing the td engine and any left overs.

put wings roof etc separate on your disco as ally as are other panels, Roof is made of steel
will end up with mixture of clean and dirty ally make sure you tell em doors are dirty ally.
also take wiper window motors and starter /alt out and weigh in as motors worth more.
pull your loom out and weigh in separate.
if engine knacked a lot of ally bits on it pull them off worth more than leaving them in, pistons are ally as well if you want to go that far.
stripped a couple apart last year to make one good one, ended up with 372 by sorting all bits out.
and prices are now higher.

Some peeps heh???

Alloy are £900/ton at current, weighed my wheels in today, £112.50 for 125kg, not too bad considering summer isn't the best time for scrap...

There's Other things too. If you often weigh stuff in worth keeping the glass. Only bout £60 a tonne but pretty heavy anyway so soon builds up.

I was a bit shocked at £5/10kg of clothes locally. Used to bin tonnes of them when we were clearing out deportees houses!

If you have a few cars go through there is plenty more to strip, cut out all the cable you can, keep any motors as windings are worth plenty, glass, aluminium e.t.c.

if its galv or any paint on then itl go thru as mixed scrap n u get less,

raw material gets best prices and batteries
