I've wild camped a lot in Scotland, as others have said you might get stuck so take plenty of provisions and warm gear (expedition sleeping bag etc)
I wouldn't bother trying to camp on Loch Lomand, drive further North and find a good spot in one of the Glens, there's plenty of rivers about to wash in if your brave :)

Dont attempt to walk up Ben Nevis unles you are competant at winter climbing and have crampons and good navigation skills...it can be very serious in the winter

We drove to the Brecons last new years eve to wild camp in the snow...we had a fantastic time.

I'm moving up to the Isle of Mull next year to start up a walking/guiding company, if you need any advice on kit etcs let me know

We did a wild camping trip to Wales a few weeks ago.

As they camped in our forest and we slept in the landy's on the hillside I think they were warmer than us.

They just used a plastic sheet and some bivvy bags.

I was quite impressed at the gear they had too. Proper jet boiler cooking equipment.

4 days is nowt. You'd be best picking an area and exploring that. Argyll, for example or as mentioned Oban and Appin.

It's my 40th next year (September) and I have promised myself a trip up to Scotland for a tour round. I've just read all the previous posts and recommendations on this post and I just can't wait to go. It looks stunning.

I may be slightly biased...lol... but Pitlochry is about dead centre of Scotland... has everything you need..and a great base to work from. And if you can weld...then you can work on my old 110 in your spare time! :D

I'm headin to Ballachulish mid February again hoping for some snow this time.:D

Bought thermals and ski jacket for the last trip February 2011 temperature didn't get below 10C at night  :D :D

If anyone is up in Aviemore next week, look out for the old black Vogue LSE. I'll be up skiing with mates and hopefully having a bit of fun with the Range Rover too.

Alex :)

I am going to Helmsdale in Sutherland on the 10th of Jan as me and mate do every year for the start of the salmon fishing season. The weather is usually rotten but it is a fantastic part of this great country.
