......hmmm didn't get round to clocking that properly....sounds like you are on it...which is good as flailing prop shafts cause lots of damage, i had it happen with very little notice in my series 2a and the flailing prop took out my single circuit brake pipe.....eeeek and I used to regularly grease the props but could never get the grease to come out of all the cups...

So far I've done:
  • Greased UJs
  • Diff oil change
  • Air filter change
  • Engine Oil and oil filter change
The engine oil only poured out 5L - which I found odd as the dipstick still showed oil in the range.
(I made sure the engine was warm and car level...)

So, now it has near 7L in it and the dipstick reads near the top of the range.

I mention this as I've noticed a marked improvement in the engine noise, especially around the 1900rpm range when under load. It's much less 'rattly'. This came about after the engine oil change specifically (the air filter was days beforehand).

Is this a thing to expect (engine being nicer audibly), or am I making it up in my mind ?

Either way I'm happy.

Gearbox/transfer box soon... Then finally I'll do the diesel filter and brakes

Just done my first one Mate. I did fuel filter, oil and filter and coolant.
I have a k and n air filter that just needs a clean and I won't need to do the diff etc. They were just done by previous owner.
Good fun though.

Yip, learned a bit about my machine.

Gearbox yesterday - transferbox on Sat :)

Lots of 'sheesh, that could do with a clean' moments whilst underneath!

Hey, so how is the coolant drained? I had to remove the reservoir when I was fixing my clutch master cylinder but I just drained it with a syringe, as it was high it was pretty easy. Specs say 11.5L of 50% mixture of antifreeze and water (distilled I assume?)

Also, what was your decision re. the fuel filter? Did you bite the bullet and prime the filter with 'fresh' diesel straight from the can (with a 1 in 500 chance of injector ruining particles)? Rig some kind of pressure/suction thing (that introduces particles anyway)? Or did you make the wise decision to buy a machine with civilised (pre-puma) priming pump ?

It's last on my list for a reason!

Final update, everything done and more:

Fixed interior light fault
Extended 10AS aerial (can now arm/disarm from inside the house!)
Sanded and repainted front grille (lumpy white corrosion on the alloy)
Replaced both fuel breathers on the tank (broken and blocked... horrible job)
Fixed light dip motors
Pulled out about 10m of leftover accessory cables left behind by previous owner in sad state ready to short the battery
Rust converted and painted footwells
Replaced dash clock lamp and fixed random time loss issue (lol)

woo + hoo !
