New to site, so sorry if this has been asked before, but is there any upgrade to the satnav system on a 2006 discovery 3 hse that can be carried out to make it more up to date...

Welcome;)

Latest disc you can get is 2012
TBH the nav is pretty poor

Thank for your reply, I was hoping for more of a newer model that can be retrospectively fitted, A complete replacement that you can get, if there is one that fits...?

Not easily, as the nav is integrated into the vehicle electronics, like the audio system, parking distance system, and all terrain display.

There's a 2019 disc available, which will probably do a small software update too, but otherwise you're pretty stuck with the standard system, unless you want to go full custom upgrade, which will cost serious cash.

Thank you for the info, didn't realise it was that involved in the other car systems, would you happen to know where I could acquire a 2019 disc, at least it would have a newer map, the one I have ( which I assume came with the car originally), is missing loads of roads that have been built since it was fitted. So gets confused often, which is very frustrating...
Regards .

Try this through your phone or just get a normal sat navigation for poor signal areas

Unfortunately it's like all modern vehicles, where electronic systems are either shared with other components in the vehicle, or in communication with them.
Gone are the days where you can install a universal radio, as the audio system now does multiple other functions, like the parking sensors sound, sat nav voice, vehicle warning tones and so on, so yes changing any part of the system, effects the whole system.

I've just received a new 2019 Freelander 2 disc from here https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/2018-...-navigation-sat-nav-map-update-disc-196-p.asp
They list the D3 disc too, although only up to 2018, but thankfully much cheaper than the well out of date LR disc.
Be aware that these discs aren't actually LR branded discs, but are from another vehicle manufacturer (Subaru I believe), which uses the same nav system, and still keeps the maps up to date.

Thats great thank you, I will give that site a look at and see if I can get a 2018 disc.....

That halfords system looks ideal, do you know how difficult it is to fit, I assume it means taking out the original audio system unit, as it looks to big to replace the satnav screen on top of the dash...!

There may be more than one disc, as it take a few to cover all of Europe, so make sure you order the correct disc for the area you need it to cover.

On a related point, Do you know if you can retrofit a reversing camera into the original system, or would that have to be a total separate system?

It is possible, and something I'm going to be looking at myself, on the very similar FL2 system.

The standard D3 or FL2 (mine) nav screen doesn't have an input for a reverse camera, so the image needs to be 'injected' by another box of tricks (called a GVIF interface), at a point where the nav disc unit feeds the screen.

It's not a particularly cheap to do, as the GVIF interface is over £200, but thankfully the camera itself is cheap, so it is very possible to do, and looks OE too.
