Looks like its the head unit faulty, I changed the GPS and made sure I was set to GBR antenna but it still had me in Brussels.
I then went out and it is now showing GBR in fact close to where I live by one street but still no GPS although it knows I am moving, I will ring satnavupdates

If you have the HDD version, then the GPS connector is the round blue one in this photo shamelessly copied from fleabay

I tried an aftermarket GPS and it did not work, so splashed out £120 for a map update usb stick after giving my vin number I also received a code for the install, after 2.75 hours updating with the engine running it still had no GPS signal, so I purchased another GPS unit and fitted that, took it out for a drive and glad to say it is now working.
My question is how do I check that the map version is now the 2021, I know there is a way of checking but for the life of me I cannot remember how to do it.
I found an old post asking the same question but it had no answer, so I have also asked on that post as well

It's a Denso system with HDD so this should work....

Ignition on, get to the destination entry screen below

Thank you, If that is the latest version then I have successfully updated the unit. Interestingly parked up next to the bungalow with the GPS unit just hanging from the sunblind it it picking up 6 satellites, I intend to affix it to the top corner of the windscreen tommorrow, is this about right?

That is the latest version, map data is March 2020, the release date is 2021 (which isn't shown).
It'd probably be worth reconnecting your roof mounted antenna to see if the issue was the navigation module all along, you can always reconnect the aftermarket antenna if needed, the orientation and 'skyview' will give you better and more accurate positioning, although there are strategies, such as inputs from composite vehicle speed, steering angle and 'snap to', which compensates for GPS accuracy by showing you as on the nearest mapped road (within limits). If you need to use the aftermarket one, then personally I'd mount it in the corner of the dash, facing upwards - any tilt will reduce the number of satellites seen, 10-15 degrees is negligible, screen angle is ~50 degrees, which would significantly degrade the number and strength of received signals.

Thank you, I did have the original GPS antenna connected after I did the update yesterday and drove about, but it did not work, I connected the aftermarket GPS late this afternoon which worked. I take your point about mounting it in the corner on the top of the dash, in fact that will be easier as I will not have to feed the cable up and across the door pillar,
Once more thank you for all your help, without it I would not have got this far.

No worries, glad you've got it all sorted!
