Greetings,

Can you folks answer a couple of questions for me. What is the bracket on the back door? Not the missing one but the one that is currently attached and looks like it has small silver reflectors in it.

Second question, has anyone seen fender flares like the one that is broken on the right rear of the vehicle? They are fiberglass and stick out about 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches. Sorry, 3.8mm to 5mm. I really do like they way they look and would like to replace it with a like item. Thanks for the help.

bracket on the rear just looks like a domestic door hinge arches look like they've just been fitted on the inner wing rather than onto the outer but might be a special part for spanish ones

The piece attached is part of the original spare wheel carrier, wich I suppose was changed by the newer Santana design, the one in V shape more resistant wich is been removed on that car (by the difference of colour).

The wheel arches i don't know where they came from but I think were an optional equipment during 80's. I've 3 on the garage waiting to find the lost one but are quiate a rare piece and difficult to find ones wich are not broken.

I will have to search for a picture of the original spare carrier. I can't picture how it will work. I do have the big V carrier in the garage but don't really want to put it on. The thing weighs about a good bit by itself without a tire. I have read that there was a modification to put another door hinge on to assist with the load. I might do that but I don't know yet.

A land rover door has three hinges to take the weight. You have none at the top of the door. Thats alot of weight hanging freely. Is that original fittment?

As far as I can tell it is. By the hinge at the top do you mean the top half above the center line? That back door is a two piece door where the top half can come off when removing the top of the vehicle. I assumed that was normal. I am still learning. Thanks all for the input

May well be normal for a santanna, i dunno. Doesnt sound great from an engineering point of veiw but discovery doors only have two hinges. If they are man enough shouldnt be a problem, and as you say the top is removeable.Google images the rear of a defender to see the hinge set up.

Ps why is this a special?

I don't have a clue. As this is my first one maybe the folks with knowledge will know. I will post more pictures. My assumption is because of the overload springs in the back, overdrive, maybe the brush guards and foot steps, and possibly the sunroof? Oh and power assist steering.

springs just look like someones bolted two sets of leafs together as a bodge ?

OD - factory option probably del torro

bull bar and foot steps are aftermarket from the looks of things

sunroof is new that could be spain only as its warm

PAS is most probably aftermarket

actually scrap my last bit on springs………it looks like someones bolts paras to leafs  wonder if the leafs and paras were both shagged so he thought putting the two together might equal one good set

My guess is they are overload springs to handle extra weight and towing. In the States this is done regularly for leaf sprung vehicles that will be carrying extra weight.

It seems that the Spanish under the Santana badge added a few of their own touches to the Land Rovers. I think this might be one of them. It looks like it was meant to be there. Finding rebuild parts or a new actuator is going to be a challenge I think.

cant see why they'd need to do that as the LR 1t only uses one set

I don't see a need for it either. I have to replace them anyway as a couple of the leaves are broke. I will be getting a standard set from an English parts house yet to be determined.

Another question, are door seals readily available? Also how is the front windscreen sealed? I see it is held in with metal strips and looks like it is supposed to be set into silicone or something similar, is that the case? You guys are super helpful and I appreciate every bit of it.
