Looks like a good time was had by all. Nice to see Pintsize out, hope the RAV performed well since the engine rebuild. Bet the RAV showed a few Landies up too. Top woman Pintsize. :D

B3aker. I think I backed up for you to get by on one of the lanes.

There were so many Landys out yesterday.

The guy in the 55 plate RR Vogue, very shiny and on road tyres, side steps too, doing a lane that stopped Carpy & Pintsize. The RR was straddling the ruts luckily. He was on his own, bit stupid really as if he would have got stuck, I don't know how he would have got out, no recovery points at all. We would have got him out, but probably cause a couple of grands worth of damage doing it.

PUBLIC NOTICE
BYWAY CLOSED

road traffic regulation act 1984:secttion 14
EMERGENCY TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ON PART OF
BYWAY OPEN TO ALL TRAFFIC KNOWN AS FORTY FOOT LANE
THE BEDFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL HEREBY GIVE NOTICE THAT
from the date hereof to the 21st may 2009 both dates inclusive, or until the proposed works are completed, no person shall cause any mechanically propelled vehicle or horse drawn vehicle to proceed along the following lengths of lanes:
FORTY FOOT LANE(1) (PART OF KNOTTING AND SOULDROP:BOAT No 10 and Wymington: BOAT No8)

Which extends from plain pond at (OS GR)SP 9613 6117 (MAP POINT A) for approximately 2240 metres to its junction with Public Footpath No4 Knotting and Souldrop at (OS GR) SP 9783 6255 (Map point B)
Forty Foot Lane(2)(Part of Knotting and Souldrop: BOAT No10) which extends from its junction with the UC299 Chapel Lane Souldrop at (OS GR) SP 9801 6269 (Map point c) for approximatly 475 metres to its junction with the A6 at OS GR SP 9845 6295 (MNap point D) These temporary closures are required to enable repair works to the surface of the lane and for safety reasons due to works at the Byways junction with the A6.
The closures are expected to take place from 1st May 2009 for a period of three weeks and will be followed by a Temporary Prohibition Order covering an additional period of six months.
DATED 1May 2009

Questions are:
Why weren't repairs done while the lane was closed for the last 6 months, in fact I think it's been closed longer than that?
Why on safety grounds is it OK to ride a Horse out of the lane onto the A6, but not a car?
Beds Council are using this as an excuse to bypass the Byway laws and try and close Forty Foot for good.

shame you put that in brackets there - i had a nice old pun for that!

well - i think i may have to have a little look at the byways chesham way at some point, they should be open now and certainly did look like fun. not enough to make a day out of it but a couple of hours of fun for sure!

they is a good ford at iver which is nr you i think

Has anybody done the lane that starts by the silo's on Keysoe Road East (Between Keysoe Row and Little Staughton)???

We had a run down this one yesterday (infact this was the lane we came across the other Disco as per my previous post) and was amazed by how narrow this one was, by the time we decided it might have been not one of our greatest lanes we were already commited and had nowhere to turn around apart from the farmers field 1/3rd of the way down which is frowned upon.

So we carried on, scratched the hell out of my friends Disco but made it to the end in one piece thank god!

All in all, this one would be good if it was wider so may be more suited to SJ's etc, although you can attempt it in LR's if your used to battlescars, just be careful of the hidden trees, we just about squeezed through them with 265's and 2" flexi aches.

Good luck!!!

Ah i did nearly get stuck out by Tillbrook round the woods, some really deep ruts down one of the lanes.
Where abouts did you get stuck then?

I'm new to it all too, wouldn't mind tagging along, get some tips along the way.

cant remember the name of the lane, some deep ruts where i just grounded out like a beast.
