So I got my sankey yesterday and it's absolutely immaculate. Fully restored by last owner. But there's one thing that's bugging me. In the middle of the wheels there's a sort of bracket sticking out. What's it for? I can't see any reason for it to be there but the all have it.
 
Holy thread resurrection Batman. But rather than getting flamed for asking rather than searching - can this sticky out thing be removed for good? Thanks

I have not seen Freelaner or Pikey for a while if you get no response here just ask in the 90 section and take the grilling
It’s not that bad you get used to it weve all had it ;)

If you don’t intend to lash your Sankey down on a pallet in a plane then yes.

people often cut them off (you have to keep the bit that bolts on - so cut between the mounting bolts and the flange bit ) so they can fit boost alloys etc.
Iirc when you cut it off it leaves a hole which needs a plate welding over the top.

I presume you want to remove it so you can fit alloys?

I want to fit modulars and not sure if the hubs fit through - thanks for the help

if they are standard defender fitment then they should fit without chopping anything up, all though be careful about tyre size.

you can always get the wheels and if they don’t fit, chip the weird hub thing off then
 
I got a set of the std Sankey wheels and tyres - old stock, not cheap, but they work really well. They are 5" with trailer 600x16 cross plys. The crossply have a stiff sidewall so they are very stable on tow and the tread is more like a motorcycle front wheel - good for keeping in line and i think the rolling resistance is low. Because they are thin the spare takes up less space too.

i have matching wheels and tyres between the 90 and the trailer for mine so they can share a spare
 
I did think of doing that, but the Wolfs and 235/85s cost close to £150 a corner so 2 more would be pretty much what the trailer cost! (And I'd need 2 more locking wheel nuts...)
