Everyone expect Diesel Do, his was built properly to begin with and hasnt failed yet. Mines been through at least two gaskets that I know of with me doing the last one. The MLS ones can and do fail, generally due to poor installation or undetected coolant leaks.
I still have my 'F, Morten . And two Freelanders. I bought the last one yesterday, a 2000 Open Air with a leaking head gasket and a grinding noise somewhere in the drivetrain.
The MLS gasket really works if you fit all the other improvements at the same time. There is a strengthened oil rail, steel locating dowels and the later head bolts. The liners also need to protrude an equal amount to equalize the clamping loads. These mods will still need the PRT stat to improve gasket life further.
