Disco 2,
rear end has dropped on one side,
is it a case of straight forward airbag replacement??? or could summat more sinister be a lurking in there???
cheers for any info:)

Is replacement within the capabilities of someone with little intelligence and less spannering ability?
 
Sounds like you have the same as mine and the height sensor is bust on that side.

Its a plastic arm with a metal rod coming off the end of it to the chassis, you can see it just in front of the wheel on the side that is still up.

Pretty easy fix and you can get them for around £15 s/h or £30 new off ebay.

Meanwhile I'd try to find a way to prop it up to avoid any potential damage to the bag from sitting at the bottom of its range overnight. You can wedge it after the car raises with the engine running.
 
ok mate, thanks for that, i was about to jump in with both feet and order 2 new airbags. but i'll investigate the height sensor first. ta much!
 
but you could just as easily have one leaking air bag...and yes its a piece of ****

I don't think this is the case every time, but it is possible that they may be out of sync.

Have you confirmed that is the problem?

Will let you know when I fit mine. Would have been today but my postman seems to have a pathological inability to read signs that say 'Please leave parcels with neighbour'. He seems to think it says 'Please put a red card in my letterbox telling me to go and collect it from somewhere that is only open when I am at work' :mad:
 
Officially, it *is* the case, but you can do it with a nanocom.

Also, most people find that they can get away with just replacing the sensor as they aren't too far out anyway.

thanks for your help everybody, I feel most enlightened. i've ordered a sensor and an air spring, hopefully if i fit em both it should do the trick.
if not we'll be usin Doris's fiesta to collect our new caravan sunday ooops.

plan is to have a bash at this first one and if i don't spectacularly balls it up, i'll order the second and do that,
after starting the car yesterday everything pumped up nicely and its still all pumped up now, no leaning at all at the moment, I thought if the airspring had bostid it would keep deflating on that side.
baffled.

ride height sensors are all intact with no damage

they are very temperamental-mine used to only happen every so often when i parked on a particular incline
 
air spring fitted, easy peasy thanks to advice and info on here, problem solved. very happy Disco driver.

Unfortunately(for me) I'm insomniac so I have a little time to share with you guys some facts about SLS others then already expostulated. These ones are not so usual as leaking bags but might happen, I'll corroborate w.shop manual with possible faults.

1.Attached to end of the air dryer unit is the pressure limiting valve(1). The valve protects the air springs from over inflation.
The pressure limiting valve also operates when the exhaust valve is opened. The valve is pneumatically operated, responding to air pressure applied to it.
The exhaust valve is also located with the pressure limiting valve. The exhaust valve is solenoid operated by the ECU and directs air from the air springs and control valves to atmosphere when required.
The two air control valves for the LH and RH air springs are located at the forward end of the housing. Each valve is connected to the compressor/air dryer unit through a shared single pipe which directs air to and from the air springs.
Each control valve is individually operated by the ECU.

Each one of these can do tricks, and could work now and then, mostly (1)-with this one I have had probs myself

2.When SLS compressor operation is required, the ECU provides a battery supply to energise the SLS relay located in the engine compartment fusebox. When the relay contacts close, a 12 V supply passes through fusible link 9 in the engine compartment fusebox, through the relay contacts and operates the air supply unit compressor. The ECU will then supply power to operate one or both air control valve solenoids and/or the exhaust valve solenoid to inflate or deflate the air springs as required. The compressor does not need to be powered to deflate the air springs.

Pray not to have problems here............but it may occur:eek:

3.And now faults described with effects

Failure modes
Failures are indicated by the SLS warning lamp in the bottom left corner of the instrument pack illuminating continuously in an amber colour. The following tables show the type of system failures and their effects on the system
operation.


Height sensors
Failure -- Effect
Sensor output stuck at 5 V --Vehicle will not level
Sensor output stuck at 0 V --Vehicle will not level
Mechanical link between radius arm and sensor broken --Vehicle will not level

Door Switch Inputs
Failure
1.Harness leads for open doors are are broken or shorted toV Batt.
2.Harness leads to door(s) shorted to earth
Effect
1.Air suspension levels when one or more doors are open
2.Air suspension will not level

SLS off-road mode switch
Failure --Effect
1.Fault in wiring harness --Off-road mode cannot be selected
2.Failure of off-road mode switch --Off-road mode is activated when switch has not
beens elected

Air supply unit air control valves
Failure --Effect
Valves open or short circuit --Vehicle does not level or levels unevenly

Air supply unit compressor
Failure --Effect
Faulty relay, harness fault or compressor fault --Vehicle does not level upwards

The SLS system is active when the ignition switch is in position II, when one or more doors are open and for up to thirty minutes after all doors have been closed. If the rear axle is articulated by more than 100 mm (3.93 in), the ECU will not activate the SLS system.
