Our Springer up till around 10 used to launch her self into the pickup before I got the tail gate fully down..that was going down to the beach/river the bugger wouldnt get back in for the homeward journey or get out at the end after being lifted in!..lol

Buy a ramp!
Lots of them out there. You just put it in the boot , lift it out, unfold ,dogs walk up/down it, and the problem is solved.

He’l be scratching the door come dinner time. Saw an advert not long back - dog walker £12 for an hours walk, 2 dogs £15. I honestly started to think about it - Quitting my job that was
