My steering wheel was starting to look naff. The cream leather had faded with sweat and muck over the years and even a second hand replacement was a fortune and the ones i had found were worse than mine.Anyway bought some leather dye and completely changed the look.Sad i know but looks a lot nicer now. What do you think and has anyone else done this.

No.

I cleaned mine with leather cleaner and kept the same colour. I just use wipes to keep it clean now.

Epicuser, Yours looks mint?Mine was like that once over but lost it's sheen and started to look well shabby.

Fine job !!!
Did you use Gliptone ?

I have used Gliptone on mine which is Smokestone (Light grey) and it works well. The secret is to remove the natural oils from your skin on the leather to be dyed with Meths or similar before applying the dye.

I used a leather dye from a furniture repair kit the wife had bought. I lightly rubbed the wheel down and rubbed it all over with lighter fuel dries out the oils nicely, then applied the dye in layers dried off each layer with hair dryer and applied a gloss finish coat that came in the pack.Job done.

Did my shabby grey leather a few months ago, the grey had started to wear off on mine so now its nice and black :)

Mine has the usual wear/sun damage across the top half, but as it’s not leather I am looking for a decent steering wheel cover. (Don’t really want to mess around with the air bag to replace the actual wheel)
Can anyone suggest a good quality replacement cover that they have fitted?
I have looked at ebay and the prices seem to range from a few £’s to over £20+ so I guess you get what you pay for, but I would appreciate somebody else’s thoughts.

Take it off dougden it really is dead easy! Disconnect negative from battery, wait 10 mins or so 3 torx screws from the underside then take out the airbag section connection on the back make sure the wheels are straight take of the centre nut on the steering wheel take it off do it up then put back on reverse of taking it off don't forget to put the connection back on the airbag. Job done!so much better than a steering wheel cover.

My leather steering wheel is no more. had to take leather off or should I say what was left of it I've had to put a cover on it for now looks sh@t !!!!! Think ill take more care if I find a better one. like others have!!
