Hi

Help needed!

Does anyone out there know about the South African imported Defender. 2.8i, straight 6, BMW M52 ?

In particular does anybody know anything about the immobilisor and the ECU ??

Im not getting a spark on mine, and everything else seems ok.

cheers,
Dave

erm, not likly to get much help there, 1st post, essentially asking how to bypass immobilisers...
I'm not being unkind, plenty will follow for that...

Ah , I see! Sorry.
Well not really looking to bypass the imobilisor if I can help it !

I was hoping that some someone out there might know this vehicle as it is very rare. Only about 1000 of them ever built and that was in South Africa.

There is a Landy section, and lots of members with 2.8 BMW motors.

Much bigger audience than us with our doozils. ;)

If it uses a BMW immobiliser ie EWS which is cerca M52 then a common problem is for the EWS and DME to step out of alignment and not transfare the rolling code, hence non start. You need to use a decent quality diagnostic computer to realign it. That is of course assuming its an EWS system, all the above is BMW stuff.

Thanks problem solved. The Lucas 10AS immobilised had fallen out of sync with the ECU, probably due to low battery conditions.

Found a garage with a T4 diagnosis toll that managed to resync it.

She`s purring again.

For those that dont know the 2.8i was built for the African market between 97-2001. Often regarded as the best defender ever built.

IIRC they were the only Defenders that were capable of 100mph, and they were factory restricted to that speed

I have worked on these, once I put a disco transfer box in one for a customer and it did 90 in 3rd plus it was easily faster than our 50th anniversary 4.0 and our 4.6 powered 90.

Got any piccys of it mate? I'm not quite a rivet counter, but would be nice to see some thing a bit different from the 'normal' fare on LZ.:)
