should my 1972 S3 have a steering damper, the brackets are there.
douse it need one?

The answer to that is no it shouldn't have one and no it doesn't need one.

I've just swapped the whole front axle assembly on my 109. The one I've fitted has brackets for a damper but I haven't fitted one. Don't need it in my opinion.

it doesn't need it but it can take a little of the lash out when going over bumps etc
