Yeah guys, I've been reading the other posts and I get it, you're a bunch of funny geezers who get off on driving your landies around in sunny old England. I've just purchased a Series 2a late model, 1980. (with the lights on the wings, but still retaining the cutout wheel arches) and I have most of the parts. I'm going to spend the next few months putting this thing together, so expect lots of photos and yes, I expect you will take the ****, but the thing is an absolute weapon. The bell and engine mounts have been changed to fit a holden 186 red engine (straight six) with extractors which I hope will steer me clear of the problems with the rover engines overheating in this climate, it's also a much more powerful engine. I live in Cairns, in the Far North of Australia, so the whole heating thing isn't so much of an issue. but I have a roof if I have to go up into the hills where it's colder (15 degrees as opposed to 25-30) When you guys come here you go bright pink.

wish i could remember the names of some of the pubs ah got ****ed in when i was there. fooking hot and humid, fooking horrible it wur.

wur glad to get away from the coast and back into some dry heat

Nah, it's great at this time of the year, just come out of the wet season, so all the creeks are pumping. Moderate temperature, fairly low humidity. Blue skies and girls in skimpy bikinis. And muddy trails in the rainforest to explore, when I get this landy going.

ah got there just at the tail end of the wet. after having come through william creek , cober pedy, alice springs and kaakaadooo park.
and it wur folking horrible. take a shower , no sooner get dried and yer all sweaty again.

1980? Surely this is a Series 3. Good luck with it and wlcome to the funny farm.

1971-72 was the last of the s2a unles you have one that sat in a crate and was only built in 1980 loads went to the third world in crates ready to be built

Hey Jarra..

I want dry and calm conditions 3 weeks on Tuesday when we touch down at Cairns for 2 nights, day and a half booked on the Reef, will be in Oz for a fortnight at Brisbane breaking it with the trip up to you.

Soo if the weathers crap will be blaming you :D

Coolbasher, Can't promise what the weather will be like in brisbane, but up here it will be peachy mate. Cairns is about 2000 clicks from brisbane.
Anyway, I didn't come here to talk about the freakin weather. I don't know if it's 1980 or not. I know for sure it was the very last of the S2a that they brought into Australia before the Series 3. It's got the series 3 instruments, but it has the older style cutout wheel arches. I'll get some photos up soon so you can all have a look. I need to put a roll bar in, because 95% of the time I won't have a roof on it, but not sure where to fix it to the chassis. Also the top steering pivot arm is siezed, and I can't budge it. I also need to put seats and belts in, but not fussed with just a upholstered piece of foam. Anyone got any suggestions about that arrangement. I want a bench seat that fits, is comfortable and you know, staunch enough to be in my landy.
