Any ideas why this is happening? Never been wading and hub caps in place.

Yes, I went to top it up the other day and it was only an eggcupful down.Silly question, Mick. Have you got plenty oil in your diff?
Calm yourself down , but I do have a shaft like steel.I'd already unzipped and now I'm disappointed
I'll check em. Used every day so should have plenty oil splashing about.Have you checked the breathers are clear? As @steve2286w says, condensation if they are blocked.

Your work bench is as organised as mine
That's the clear I can work in.Your work bench is as organised as mine
Once I've done my mahoosive clear up I often can't find stuffAnd mine, and for sure many others. Once every six months I have a mahoosive clear up...4-5 weeks later it's back to normal. Amazingly, always seem to find whatever tool/part I'm looking for
That's a good shout. Does seem odd though, if it's used every day, that the covering of oil it must be getting isn't protecting it.Just guessing here, but as the breathers are approx hald way along the side of the axle with the longer 1/2 shaft. maybe the rust is simply the damp air getting in via the breather banjo?

Even with the diff churning it up and throwing it around? Got to get warm and have a fair bit of mist floating about in there Depends how far Mick is taking it every day I suppose?I would say not much oil gets that end unless you have car higher one side than the other ie off road etc? even then the oil will stay in the bottom of the axle case so unless it reachs the height of the shaft it will still be dry.
I dont go on very long trips to be fair. Average 15km daily with the occasional 60km fishing trip.Even with the diff churning it up and throwing it around? Got to get warm and have a fair bit of mist floating about in there Depends how far Mick is taking it every day I suppose?
