Well, this weekend I spent a couple of hours trying to treat the rust under my alpine windows. It's only affected a few small areas under the seals, and whilst there were no leaks, I thought the bulges under the seals were not aesthetically pleasing . So, I scraped the rust out and applied some jenolite.
It's good stuff, although there isn't much room to see what you are doing, especially with one hand prying the seal back and the other squirting the rust remover in. A couple of times the seal inadvertantly sprung back, and sprayed me with rust remover (there then followed frantic cleaning up of the good paintwork, just in case the jenolite ate away the good paint!).
I attempted to get some primer down under the seal, but it proved quite difficult, so on the last couple of areas I just wiped the jenolite away.
I'll inject some sealant under the seal when I have time, as my forcing the seal away from the bodywork may allow leaks to develop, and we don't want that!
It would have been better if I had removed the windows and did the job properly, but time isn't on my side at the moment (baby overdue now! ), plus, I think I would have been horrified to see the corrosion damage in all its glory, with the seals removed!
