THE BUDDAH

As I seem to like the old girl, once I have got
Her running without overheating and the battery power drainage sorted I'm considering some kind of rust protection underneath.

Any recommendations out there within the east London area.

Thanks.

Mike.

I plan to spray the underside on mine with Waxoil this summer. Did the Transit last summer and it seems to have stayed in place and stopped the rust getting worse on the wings which had pin holes appearing from the inside.

Me too. what set-up would you use to spray it? I thought I'd have get under it on my back with a paint brush...?

I have a compressor and a low pressure spray gun, had to thin the Waxoil a good bit but just did a few more coats. I'm also lucky to have a service pit so no lying on my back:D

My std' plan for this job starts as a really good clean of the underneath. Take a day or so. Try and remove some of the easily removed trip and spash guards. Let it all dry.

Years ago I would waxoyl on a summers day and get the waxoyl really hot by putting the tub into a bucket of boiling water and keep replacing the boiling water with more evry 10mins or so for about an hour. Then, with the car already prepped, pop underneath and do everything as fast as possble starting wioth the nook and crannies, working out to the easy bits. All using the Waxoyl spray kit.

This summer I plan to dilute the waxoyl with white spirit say 50/50 and put a few thin coats on. This time using a compressor.

Hope this helps....

I forgot to mention, I also heat the Waxoil in the tin with a gas fired space heater:)

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago when they replaced the exhaust. Prior to the exhaust being removed I spent a couple of weekends with the backend of the vehicle up on ramps and the suspension set on high and the pressure washer cleaning it all off.
Then when it went in for the new exhaust they stripped all the old exhaust off, waxoyled the whole lot and then fitted the new exhaust.
It looks fantastic and the guy only charged me £60.00 for the waxoyling.

I do plan to put the vehicle up on ramps again at some point in the summer, dilute some more waxoyl with thinners and spray inside all of the box sections.
From previous experience Land Rovers chassis have a habit of rotting from the inside out and I don't suppose a P38 is going to be an exception to the rule.

I did all 3 of our cars last summer. I just used the waxoyl hand pump. I just drove each car up onto my ramps so I could get more access. Front first and then the rear. It seems to have worked very well.

Great I was wondering if I should do the same, here in Japan it will cost just 10,000 Yen for a professional to do it so I won't bother doing it myself. Still is there any things that the company that will do it on my car to be aware of, things to not do or being careful about?

Thanks
