put wire brush to mine and scraped what i could off then using a compressor i blew excess off and then covered whole lot with liquid bitumem stippling it with brush then a few days later a covering with grease looks good but wiill have to wait and see how long it lasts

"wheel bearing grease" ? .....grease mixed with rain water is more corosive than sea water ....in the old days when they made a boiler / tank that had water / heat involved they used bananas to lube any fittings / joints that were a tight fit knowing that is they used grease it would be wroten in no time at all .....

Re: Trapping stuff with with Waxoyl

True - can tend to trap moisture, That's why I used Ankor wax on mine - easier to spray and displaces moisture as it goes on

Ankor wax, brilliant stuff.

As for waxoyl its nowhere as good as people make out, i used this for years on various discos i owned and it never lasted for more than 18 months two years at best, always looked good when first applied, but never lasted.

Father in law used it every year on his new Nissan, in the end was scrapped after many years of being welded, this kind of sealed waxoyls fate in my mind

First used ankor wax 18mths ago and touched it up again recently and was surprised how good it still was especially bearing in mind both my machines go off road quite a lot whereas the discos didnt at all.

Ankor wax made by morris lubricants, free p+p over 50 quid i think.

What about normal stone chip like they use underneath most cars. Would that prevent rust or make it worse. I think everyone would think of using waxoyl but it would come off with lots of off road use.

How much would it cost to fit a Galv-chassis ? seem's the way to go if one can find the cash, in fact what price the chassis to start with ?

dont know what the grease is i used but it comes as a freebie from son in law whos job it is to lubricate cables shafts etc on industrial cranes [shipyards etc] been using same stuff for ten years plus on various motors ive had and on mot tests always get great comments on underside of motors so ill stick to my little recipe the bitumen is the only bit i done extra -surely thats gotta help
