Evening all

unsure whether this has been touched upon or not

very shortly I shall be replacing all the suspension parts underneath around the chassis rail between the front and rear wheels

I wish to know if I clean up all the rail I am after some matt black rust prevention spray

what are my options to cover this?

cheers all

The D3 chassis rails are really beefy, and don't rust like those on the earlier Disco's. The only real place the chassis rusts is at factory weld points, as paint doesn't stick well to welds, and some areas subject to direct spray off the wheels.

The body is more likely to rust than the chassis, particularly areas around the rear body mounts just forward of the rear wheels, and again any other areas that get direct road spray.

Cheers Nodge, I am aware of this and thankfully all is well in this department

I like clean work areas hence the Q re: the rails

Hope the FL2 is behaving now? I haven't checked your thread as of yet

I wish for a black clean blank black canvas before I start to replace everything, I have this evening now ordered a new Hitachi compressor and relay plus front valve block and the LR air suspension retaining wire, I am just missing the rubber mounts which I need to source for the compressor mounting.

Been looking at Dinitrol once again I am after somethiong that i can just spray on and forget about for the next few years.

Cheers

The FL2 was worse than expected, but I'll get there. ;)

I used Dinitrol on my D3 in the problem areas after dealing with the existing rust. I just used Waxoil spray coating on the areas that weren't so likely to rust. The vehicle remained in the same condition for the 3 years I owned it, so it was definitely worth the trouble.

Oh and when doing the suspension, make sure you use new bolts, and coat them liberally with copper slip, as the bolts can rust solid in to the bushes. ;)
