yep do you have a seperate air con belt or is it integral to the main belt (not had much to do with the 300tdi belts)

The 300TDi has a separate belt for the air con compressor. My air con hasn't worked since I had the car, a few months back I noticed the air con belt was looking a bit frayed in places. I didn't want to risk it breaking while the engine is running so I just cut it off.

just lop it off then;) there is nothing to hurt by it not being connected other than you just won't have aircon

it would be interesting to see if it affects the mpg even though the compressor isn't running it will still have some drag on the pulleys so with it off completely it may improve slightly ?

it will be negligible

well they recon upto 10% increase with it working so i would have thought there would be a slight increase :)

who is they?????

while i was working with VAG we did tests and found the MPG with aircon running compared to not was only about 4% with climate control it was about 5% due to the higher electrical drain from the system, and windows open on a normal car only marginally increases drag
