i put fuel in it but it wont start now!
any ideas?
thanks
derek:(

Probably the cediment from the bottom of the tank, and empty pipes just try some more.

Your's is a petrol?

it will take a good while to pump it up into the carb. keep trying, itll start eventually.

Yeah on the (numerous!) occasions I have run out of fuel, I have had to run the starter for quite a while continuously to get it to fire (petrol)

Petrol V8i. I've read that you can damage the cat by constantly turning the engine over. is this true?

supposedly, yes - from un-burnt fuel getting into the cat - but what other choice do you have?! and if you've run out of fuel, there isn't any getting to the engine anyway until it fires!

that only applies to an engine thats pumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust system. ie a misfire or no fire/ignition.
yours aint got any fuel!

I take it you were working on the tank or something that you let it run dry?

the low fuel light came on while my wife was using it. later on i was turning it round to put it on the drive, it coughed and spluttered then stopped. it hasnt started since. i've put 10 litres of petrol in but i think it must be something else.

Just a thought, but you could try and take the fuel pipe off and turn it over see if the fuel is getting through. It would at least rule out one possibility.

i've read that some injection petrol engines have pressurised fuel systems. if the fault is'nt fuel related would'nt just disconecting the fuel pipe create another problem?
