finaly decided to get round to doing my front diff pinion seal.been leaking since i got my disco.just got the flange off and theres loads ov play in pinion,does that meen the diff is ####ed.it moves about half a inch all round.

It means the pinion bearing needs replacing which is a diff removal job

if its only that i mite just take it to a transmission/axle place and let them sort it

Surely if he has taken the flange off by undoing the centre nut, all of the preload will have been removed from the pinion bearings, so it will float around?
Replace the seal and flange, tighten the nut to the correct torque and that should remove the play, or am I missing something?

My mistake, assumed it had been re-essembled.

I must remember to read posts properly :doh:

all back together another job done.only 1 more oil leak to go lol
