Hello, I have noticed that my L322 TD6 has developed a noise similar to driving over a rumble strip when under deceleration at lower speed or when steady at 30-50mph. It does not happen when travelling along at 60-70mph and the steering is straight and true. I cannot feel it through the steering column and as soon as I start to accelerate it quickly goes away. It has only started in the last week. All tyre pressures are spot on and it normally drives well. Any suggestions please.

The venerable Gearbox and Torque Convertor failing......I assume your TD6 is between 2002-2005/6 ???
 
It could just be low gearboxs oil level and old filter...

I had a slight vibration at similar speeds in my ZF geared V8....new filter and an oil change sorted it 99% perfectly....
 
Thanks for all your suggestions. I really am hoping it is something reasonable normal and not one of the real bad things that I have heard about.

PC 522 get a gearbox oil change n filter do the TX box oil and have the UJ checked £150 evening all:)

Yep, they are all crap, but my MY2000 P38 is in better nick than my mates 2002 L322.

Mostly it's funerals these days.

Yes the GM Boxes are weak and will fail, similarly with the ZF boxes they have their weaknesses too...but thats Range Rover ownership for you.
 
Hello all who offered help. It was indeed the torque converter. I did have the gear oil and filter changed at a cost of around £280 and it appeared better but still nagging. As it was still under warranty Rogers of Bedford (Best landy specialists about) suggested Premier transmissions at Biggleswade. It went in and the gearbox was re built with a new torque converter etc. The bill was over £2300. Thanks to the Warranty company 'Auto group' in Hertfordshire who responded by paying the majority. It runs great now. If this happens to you I would suggest forgetting the gearbox flush and filter; Save yourself the money and go to a transmission specialist. Don't try putting a plaster over a gaping wound it won't go away! Thanks again to all and I pity anyone who suffers this common fault. Apparently the converter used originally is a GM part and was fitted to the BMW too. He had a few of each in the yard at Premier transmissions.
