not really no.. i have had it jacked and it spins free.. and there is no play across the wheel. dont know how else to test one!

Did you try top to bottom to see if there is any play?

Yehh, not a sausage! Just had its not and it was fine.. Might try it with a big pry bar..

Just a thought here,
I had a simular noise on my daughters car when i looked at it for pre MOT check.
turned out to be a tire tread delaminating from the casing.
I done the whole thing looking at cv joint, wheel bearings and so,
I changed the two front wheels -
noise gone, put one back on, noise came back....was the tire, good tread = but fooked..
could have used as a spare, but binned it for safety..
Not saying this is your answer, as more learned landie drivers have replied far better than me..

definitely sound like something that is easy enough to rule out.. might swap at the weekend.

the steering has started going stiff at random points now.. then going fine!
