Hi guys,

Currently rebuilding my 1990 RRC which has the 3.9efi with 4 speed auto box. The gearbox cooling pipes were totally shot but I had some other ones from a 1992 disco 3 with v8 and auto box, winner I thinks until I tried to fit the two together. Land Rover changed the fittings design in 1991 ish from a domed head to a straight wil a rubber O ring. So I have a gearbox and pipes that don't go together!

Doing some research and it looks like there is a male / male adapted that fits into the gearbox but the only place that seems to supply is in the USA virtually for the same price as a full gearbox unit etc.

Anyone know any handy suppliers that may have these sorts of fittings.? Or has anyone replaced these pipes with something better?

Cheers

Can you use your existing ends & make new pipes?
I realise the pics show rubber hoses crimped onto the metal ones but my 86 RRC has short rubber hoses connecting the front ends of pipes from the box (the ones clamped to the sump) to the metal ones from the cooler.
When I got it these were held on with 2 jubilee type clips at each end of the rubber bit.
I replaced the rubber bits last year when I did some work on the box & still use two clips.
In the nearly 30 years I've owned it I've never had a problem.

I think I can use the existing pipes just with the adaptor - having said that I like your set up so may give that a go first and see how that gets on!! Thanks!

While working on those pipes, you might consider upgrading to a proper modern finned cooler if yours still has the stock bog brush setup.
Heat is the one thing that kills transmissions the quickest, especially if you have to do any kind of towing, and the stock setup is hardly up to the task.
