For the last few years my car just fails it’s emissions levels. 3 or 4 years ago a new cat was fitted . Made very little difference but made it through. Same then every year. But the levels don’t get any worse year on year.
I understand the MOT station are directed on the emissions levels from the DVLA database for the registration.
I am wondering whether there is a discrepancy, because the P38 and Classic overlapped for a considerable period?
Has anyone had the same issue?
Are the emissions levels applicable to the models at this time available for Classic and P38?
Thankyou

what does it fail on, do you have the printout? You're on carbs, correct?
Not carbs EFI.
Haven’t got all records but on last years pass it failed the 1st fast idle on CO f Lambda
In 2018 it failed 1st & 2nd fast idles on CO, overall fail
In 2017 the same and in 2016

Assuming all sensors are working, tps etc, then the next likely reason for high CO is an exhaust leak somewhere, as far as I'm aware. The engine is in good condition, valves, compression etc?

Scroll down to the flow diagrams.

ETA The link title above is missing quite a lot, it's private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles. The shortening might make you think it's for commercial vehicles. All will be clear when you open the link!
Thanks I think I should be tested under Chart 2 for passenger cars first used before 1st Aug 1995. This seems to say that if it fails Basic Emissions test, it should be retested via specific EGA? database levels for the specific vehicle or failing that non cat levels. If my understanding and the document is correct, my station is not testing correctly?

My garage is changing the lambda sensors although one or both was changed last year, but they say latest examples are notoriously short lived! Yes just been serviced and they are happy with condition.

You could always put LPG on it and make sure you drive in on gas.

Thanks to Kermit and Ratae for their advice.
Changed both Lambda sensors and got through mot. Sensors were only a year old but my garage (over 40 years with LR) tells me quality pants these days.
Showed the MOT inspector the flow chart, he said he cannot veer away from what he is told to do when he logs the car on be tested, it tells him exactly what to do!

Glad to hear you got sorted.
If it's running rich continually then the o2 sensors will will soot up and in the long term be no good for the cat.
If it burns oil, that's not good either
