Hello,

Our 1991 3.9 V8 auto RRC radiator is stuffed. We need a new one.

It also has air conditioning. Looking at the radiator, it looks like the air con has two pipes running to the rad on the driver's side. Is this correct? How can I replace the radiator if this is so?

The air con doesn't go into the rad, only oil and tranny lines. The air con bits sit in front of the radiator.

I have a '93 4.2 and on mine on one side of the radiator the set of metal pipes, one going into the top and the other going to the bottom, is for cooling the oil and on the other side the two pipes carry tranny fluid to be cooled.

As already said, one side is engine oil cooler, the other side is transmission oil cooler. Basically the radiator is 3 radiators in one. There are coils in each end of the rad to cool the oil. Rads for these are expensive to buy new, best bet is to see if there is anywhere local to you that will re-core your rad.

BTW take extra special care removing and reconnecting the pipes, it is quite easy to cross thread them then you will be in a world of pain.

+1 Here in the U.S. a new radiator costs $569 and I had mine reconditioned for $124.
 
You have no worries about the air con, so just pull it out and fix it. It's a simple job. Remove viscous fan and the cowling. The fan is attached anti-clockwise, so remember that when you remove it. Put a spanner on it and give it a clockwise whack and once it's loose, remove the cowling and fan together. After that, the pipes and hoses, then the mounting bolts and out it comes.
 
I have been told it will have three cores. I have just had a price for a recore at only £20 less than a new one....
 
Well, it is done. I got it re-corded for £230, so saving £70 on a new one. Removal and refitting was easy.
