thats the pipe av just replaced it was the last one to do the t connector had broken an a bit was in the pipe to the plenum no word of a lie it hasnt done nowt suspicious since it was fixed just idling a li8ttle low sometimes but not cutting out hose an connector cost me 17 quid well spent aswell

Whilst your at it why don't you renew the crankcase intake filter.
The T piece(crankcase ventilation hose) that is taped up can get clooged/
blocked up. Be careful because over time they become brittle and break very easy .Which would appear has already happened, hence the reason for the tape . The engine will run if this is not sealed properly but it does not like it.Also the engine breather filter or chimney as I call it should also be checked to ensure that it's in good condion. You can immerse it in a small amount of solvent to loosen up any debris .The other thing I do is to undo the ventilation hose from the side of the plenum chamber and using a piece of lint free cloth /paper gently cleanand wipe away any dirt that might be present.(carb cleaner) Being careful not to allow any debris/dust /dirt etc to pass the throttle butterfly . Also unscrew the stepper motor and do the same .I think youll be surprised as to the amount of dirt that can accumulate in these places as they do tend to get overlooked .It might not be the answer to your problem but it won.t do any harm, just let the engine breathe alot easier

groenendael i'm not sure some of the info is for me. I dont have a carb system.

When you replace this pipe shown, does it all come in opne piece?

"Whilst your at it why don't you renew the crankcase intake filter."
Where exactly is this and do you know the part number?

Thanks guys for replies, looks like this pipe needs to be changes, and it is VERY hard and brittle.

it is mate dont know how many garages missed this on mine but it was down to this t section in the pipe causing the problem it appears to corrode from underneath not visible from general glance overs though must admit mine cut out again today so gonna service it all filters an oil an see if it persists from there though must admit most problems seemed to have gone by changing this hose an t connector

Sorry about that ,however I was referring to the use of carb cleaner in the plenum chamber. Not a carb system.

Unfortunately the pipe is in three pieces and the only two numbers that come to mind are ERR 4764 Hose T piece and ERR4763 Hose Plenum /Tee.The crancase intake filter is situated at the back of the nearside rocker cover (on the top) just passed no 7 plug.
It's only a sponge filterthat sits under the little plastic cover.I think ERC 3209
is the number.Hope this helps.

Part numbers come up ok on the craddocks site, but unsure if they are the exact ones needed can anyone confirm before i order?

The T-piece and the first o-ring. The breather filter you can clean yourself easily (e.g. in fuel - take the wire out and let it soak in it - dry the wire before stuffing it back) and use it again. Perhaps you also should renew the hosing if you can see any signs of wear on them. Clean the hoses inside as well - it does not do any harm.

The crankcase intake filter is not on this page and almost definitely does not cause the problems you are having - although it is good idea to renew it.

Hey guys, could you educate me? I'm having trouble with these expressions: Neaside/Offside and their abbreviations, being not a native English speaker. We here talk about drivers side and passengers side (or left and right side, respectively (LHD)). It is very frustrating trying to find left door mirror to my car from Ebay when all the sellers talk about near- and offside. What the hell (sorry ;)) are they? And where the expression comes from? Port I understand and starboard but near and offside... argh... ;)

Nearside is the side of the car nearest the kerb in the UK which is the left side. Offside is the side offset to the kerb in the UK the right side. Mostly Used for years and years by garages to explain it. I think they just used it as tech talk. (bit like code LOL)
It is slowly being changed even in the world of instruction(driving) calling it left to left and right side to right side.

Is right or left if your sat in the car, or stood at the front looking at it???

Sorry, cannot resist... What if you are driving in a 4- or 6-lane motorway on the lane furthest to the right overtaking somebody (in UK, Uganda, Kenya, Down Under, NZ etc.) and the kerb is on your right?:p

I'd prefer this. It's simple and there's no possibilities for mixing things up in your head.

Ok, I got the point and my head seems a lot clearer. Thank you very much.:)

At least here - sitting in the car. And when talking about the engine, we look at it from the front of the car. So in RR: left hand bank (2,4,6,8, drivers side RHD) and right hand bank (1,3,5,7, drivers side LHD). Confusing - eh?

But if the vehicle is parked with the passenger door side facing the kerb on a right hand drive vehicle ,the above would not then apply.

Treat it as port and starboard .Port always being the left in relation to for'ard irrespective of which way the ship or car is parked .
Then even if you cannot physically see the vehicle etc you will always know which is which .Comprendez?

I take it your not talking about the UK?
When you park, the passenger door is closest to the kerb in most normal circumstances.
:)

Did not have time to cover every aspect. I'm sure you get the meaning
