cheers for the replys chaps!
another question tho.
What oils?
for the diffs, autobox, engine, transfer case??
Is that leaking or using? Mine uses quite a bit but it tends to do long motorway runs. I reckon it goes from full to bottom mark on the dipstick in about 1kmiles. There is a very slight leak but I think it burns most of that. No smoke though so I'm not worried about it.cheers all!
when i bought her the oil level was halfway on the dipstick..
now its below low ffs oh well
great car to drive so its not all bad news lol.
god... Enough already!!!The only rust to look out for is the brake pipe that goes over the fuel tank at the rear its very hard to pick as its hidden from underneath.
Suspension air bag can perish and leak slowly and should be replaced every 8 to 10 years but they are reasonably cheap. If its been converted to springs then you will get abused on this forum. I have owned my P38 for 10n years now and done about 130000 miles in it bringing the total up to 235000 and have had my fair share of problems but then I have taken it to Mongolia twice and driven through Russia about 5 times and also done most of Europe and Turkey and Kazakhstan Uzbekistan Kyrgyzstan .
Full to empty on the dip stick is about 1ltr.
I use 10w40 Semi Synth from Smith and Allen. You'll need about 6 litres to fill her up. Buy it in bulk to make the saving!
Diffs are 75W 90R gear oil. About 2 litres at each end. Again I use Smith and Allen.
Autobox and Transfer box are ATF Dextron III. The autobox needs 11 litres! Although when you change the fluid, you don't get it all out, so in practice you'll need a good bit less. 2.5 for the transfer box. Again, Smith and Allen is your friend here....
