A big hello from me to you all, i have a range rover 2.5 dse that does not want to start, she turns over but no fire at all, done the eka code and resync, reset the footwell button, checked for fuel and the pump and injectors, swapped the glowplugs, but she just turns over and over until the battery goes flat, is there anyone in the Mansfield Notts area that can pop in and give me an hour to help me out or any help, many thanks in advance Nigel

:welcome2: Nigel. Was the car running ok before,if so did it cut out or have you done work to it ??

Is there air bubbles in the clear plastic pipe from filter to pump?
Is there fuel being pumped when the ignition is first switched on ?
Is there fuel at the injectors when engine is turning over and the union is loosened?
first thing to check is the in tank pump which only works when the glow plug circuit is active .
also leak off pipes on the injectors could be perished.

Hi there to be honest i bought it like this, and the owner said it was working fine until it was left for a while then the old flat battery then he said the immob lockout, then he has had enough and sold it, thats where my headache has started, done the eka code and a resync tool for the immob, still will not start, thanks Nigel

The pipe has been replaced with a black one so can not see if there are any bubbles, i had the pipe off to the distribution pump and when the engine is cranked fuel comes out but has a tinge of black to it, when the injector was loosened there is an intermitant drip of fuel, i will have a look at the leak off pipes, would these stop her from starting, thanks Nigel

Blocked filter due to fungal growth in the fuel tank....

Drain and clean out the tank and fuel lines add a biocide additive to the next tank full and try and keep the tank topped up to prevent regrowth....clean injectors and change the filter.....

Thats where my money is bet....

remove fuel filter and get someone to switch on the ignition and see if you get any fuel coming out you should get about 100ml before the pump cuts out . if you have no fuel being pumped its the pick up pump in the tank needs replacing

+1 on what Saintv8 says,or maybe the guy you bought it from has been mixing some old engine oil in there to save fuel costs??? ;)

Certainly sounds like it might be "non-combustible" fuel .

leaky return pipes can make them very hard to start as they let air in when the engine is not running and allow fuel to syphon back towards the tank, meaning it has a long way to travel and try to bleed itself when you try to start it after sitting for a bit.

Is the engine check light lighting up briefly when you turn ignition on -outline of an engine-.

Right guys thanks, i will drop the tank tomo and see what we have, should it go with easy start, as the rac man couldnt get anything with easy start

How much fuel is in the tank?? Less than a quarter and difficult starting could point to the in tank lift pump....but the black tinge doesn't sound good to me....

Easy Start and diesels are not good bed fellows, on a good day it will cough and splutter...on a bad day it' may get pushed into the exhaust and if it hasn't evapourated by the time the engine coughs into laife, it'll do nasty things to the exhaust system!!

Trying to start a Diesel on Easy Start will give mixed results....sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't!!

Hi no there is no engine check light, just get slow 35mph eas fault rh window limit not set srs fault and just come up inertia switch and lights flashing

Hi yes less than a 1/4 of a tank but you do get some fuel and the block when the pipe is removed, how much should you get? the black tinge is worrying, when i changed the glow plugs they were very wet and manky looking, one had corroded off at the end

No Check Engine Light (should come on as a bulb check) indicatyes a loss of sync....

You say you have tried a Sync Tool....I assume this was for the Diesel model?? (sorry to ask)

Also, has the inertia switch tripped, you say you have reset the switch in the footwell...is this the one behind the kick panel on the A pillar??

Sounds like you have a number of issues to deal with there also (windows set is simple and can be ignored at the moment - lamps flashing could be alarm or a dodgy BeCM)

Ovalandrover indicates around 100ml or so while the Glows are on from the feed to the filter....

Grab the RAVE manuals from here - http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm

Yes the blackbox syncmate for the immob and ecu resync and yes diesel model, and yes to the switch on the a pillar, so do i need an auto spark for a re programme?

This is the fuel that came out of the filter

Yep, no check light ,no sync i'm afraid.
but as Saint says with the flashing lights it might point to a BECM or fuse box problem ;)

lights only just came on with the inertia switch reset and they went off, will see if i can get some one out to the old girl
