Good man:love:
get yourself a cup a tea cos I'm gonna go on a bit :smash:
I've only fitted V8's to 2a's and 3's so don't know if the bellhousing on a series 1 is the same( if the engines come out of a s1 it will have a conversion plate on it to mate the engine to the box)
First job, wings and front panel off, then once you've got the old lump out it's time to start on the bulkhead. You need to move the footwells 2" further in so the V8 fits inbetween, I'll get some pics up later.
Then mate the V8 to the box,the flywheel should have been redrilled to take the series clutch and the modified spigot bush should be bolted to the flywheel.
Now, some people use the original engine mounts but I find the engine sits too low and because the oil filter is at the front left of the engine if you offroad you will knock the filter off with the axle casing. So I lift the engine up a couple of inch and make some new engine mounts, plus I've got a remote filter to give even more clearance.
Once the engine is sat in place you need to make an exhaust, rangie, disco or 90 V8 will NOT fit without cutting and rewelding so don't go out and spend megabucks on a nice system cos it won't fit!
I use the downpipes and y- piece from a rangie and cut and weld to make it fit.
I think that's all the major jobs covered then it's just a case of re-plumbing and re-wiring.
If you need any more info just let me know, also I'll try get lots of pics up to give you an idea what's involved.
