1974 rover v8 petrol classic, I've placed a Edelbrock in the car come to start it it's trying to start but just shouts like not got enough power there to start. I've put a new battery on but made no difference! Has anyone any idea or anyone based in Warrington that could come and look

The engine might be being drowned.........I ran a 650cfm on a 5.7 small block, the same 650cfm is going on my 7.4 big block

A 500cfm is more for a racing set up......you'd be better with a 390 maximum, a 500 is so far over the top for a stock engine! Surprised the seller didn't mention that

I have but a high lift cam in it, piper fast road cam follower and sprockets. New high power distributor ht leads and coil. Ported and polished the heads

make sure the fuel is flowing properly, wants about 5psi and give the carb 3 pumps before trying to start just to get it going

check the idle mix too and make sure theres nothing restricting the flow

I'd at least try it with the SU carbs to see, make sure you've set the 500 up right according to the manual

its usually all the way in on idle screw then back it off 1.5 turns and work from there
