Hi Guys. Got a couple of questions for you. Im currently trying put a 4.6 V8 from a P38 into my defender. First questions is can i use defender engine mounts (incl. the brackets which bolt to the engine) instead of fabricating ones from scratch? Second question / problem is that the enxhaust manifolds foul on the bulkhead slightly on the drivers side and is tight on the passengers, however on the passengers side the end of the manifold finishes just above the chassis rail. Just wondering how people have overcome this in the past or has something gone wrong? Can i use the manifold from a V8 originally in a defender or will it restrict the engine to much? Bit more info which might help. Engine is mated to a disco V8 R380 and the bulkhead is the older 200tdi style. Any help greatly appreciated and desperatly needed.

Get new manifolds ? Headmans should fit or modify the current ones slightly and then fit a larger bore pipe to compensate ?

Had a look at modifiying the manifolds but looks like it would be a long lengthy frustrating process and custon headers are an expense i would quite like to avoid. This is the type that i have. My current plan is to fit the manifolds off a 4.0l V8 from a disco. If anyone has any reasons why that wont work then please let me know. Also planning to try and use the defender V8 mounts. Cheers guys

I think you will need to use the cast ones in order to get between the chassis rails.
They are a bit restrictive compared to tubular but not overly so.

Well the logic behind using disco pipes is that disco and def chassis rails are the same width (arnt they? )

But everything is mounted differently position wise so not quite the same

what he said ^ the p38 headers don't fit. use range rover or disco and y piece.

I have janspeed headers on my 4.0 on my defender.
They should bring a few extra bhp also

got some exhaust manifolds from a 4.0 disco on the way. next question is what to do with the throttle cable? Current one is way to short. will one from a v8 defender fit? it has to reach all the way around to the passenger side of the engine. Cheers Pete
