Hillo peeps , Strange rover been runnin fine with all the help i was given last time round , so here we go again , tick over is really poor but runnin on the road is good , have'nt done any work in the engine bay cept 4 magnacor leads , dizzie cap an rotor arm , so tick over , she threatens to cut out if u stop say at traffic lights and if left long enough tends to get back into a normal rythm , on a run she is an absolute dream , no missin an really smooth , all help muchly appreciated , many thanx an happy summer Tom . oh yeah she a 93 v8 classic

Have taken out , cleaned an replaced the stepper motor , still threatens to die especially when u 1st start her up , appears 2 hunt 4 a while then cathes up , when u come 2 a full stop the revs drop 2 almost nothin then picks up , have replaced the air filter

throttle position sensor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and si , kev and stu are scared of you showin your arse a 7th time so are hiding lol :D

Morning!

I would go for stepper first but I would also suggest take off the plenum and ram housing and give it all a good clean, re-set/check base idle, clean and set the throttle disc, check the vac lines attached to the plenum (you might have a small vacuum leak) and give the breathers a clean. Might also be worth putting a strobe on it and checking ignition timing. I know that might sound like a lot to do but it is only a couple of hours work and normally well worth it.

Ok , where do i start , have taken out , checked gappin replaced plugs , checked dizzy cap an arm , cleaned replaced accordingly , taken all air system apart , cleaned repaced couple pipes from the plenum due 2 fallin apart as soon i i went near them ,how ever there is a pipe at the front left side of the plenum as u look at it that has been blanked off , any body no where its supposed 2 go ? bin 4 a drive at the speed limit lol an as yet no better . have'nt checked the timin yet , she seems 2 run so well its jus when u stop , when u start her from cold say in the mornin she appears 2 b missin , tried takin off leads when runnin but cant track down which cylinder misses , she runs the same which ever lead u remove

Have you used genuine cap and arm or are they pattern parts from Halfords?

The blanked off pipe on the plenum - if it is the one I think it is this is normal, nothing to worry about.

Are all your ignition leads in the right place and properly clipped. There is a diagram for lead routing and it is helpful if each lead is in the right place and clipped.

even lucas cap and arms are ****e it needs to landrover-lucas as I found out after alot of time fooking about!

If the stepper checks out invest in a new throttle position sensor they are only £20, easy to fit and yours has the exact same symptoms as mine did untill I changed the tps!

I think the next port of call might be to check the vac advance unit is working. If this is good then I'm afraid you'll need to get busy with the multi meter.

I'm busy this afternoon but if I get back early enough and if you fancy a trundle down here I could maybe take a quick look. Tomorrow afternoon might be better but obviously can't make any guarantees. Drop me a PM and maybe we can arrange something.

Got a small overheatin problem now but then she aint bin that fast 4 a long time lol , tick over seems 2 b holdin her own , pick up is much better , im not terrified 2 stop at junctions now , will get the bits u suggested an go from there , Thanx 4 ur help classic kev

Good! Definately made some progress then. If it's getting hot I suspect your rad is clogged. Best bet will unfortunately be to remove it, clear the core but only use a hose - a pressure washer will destroy it. Also, pop the grille off and hose out the disused air con rad. Better still as your A/C has no compressor, remove it completely.

Back to the main rad, once youve cleaned it outside, reverse flush it, that should sort it. No way should it try to cook itself with a properly working viscous fan - those things really move air.

Catch yers later.
