So, called island4x4. That was...interesting.

Told them I bought a service kit from them for the P38 that's marked as being suitable for the car. Mentioned that the plugs in the kit are meant for the earlier engine. He agreed that the ones received in the kit wouldn't be any good for my engine and that it would need the platinum plugs (RC11PYPB4).

He stated himself that they are around £8 plug which is why they're not in the kit.

I have to question then, why are they selling a kit, for the P38 that I have, knowing that the plugs contained within it aren't suitable for the car and they themselves would recommend that you don't use them?

when i bought my service kit for my 4.6 thor the air filter doesnt fit it doesnt need the fuel filter but i fitted the plugs. they work fine but i am gonna change them out shortly

Yeah - it's definitely a false economy. Paying for plugs that aren't suitable and a fuel filter that isn't required.

Well, it didn't seem like he'd be entertaining that idea - as if it was my fault for buying the kit with plugs that weren't suitable.

...anyone with a gems want new plugs? lol

What! try quoting "fit for purpose" and "trading standards", see if he changes his mind. I've never heard so much rubbish, cannot be doing their reputation any good. Hope you told him that his attitude will be posted on this forum, they get a lot of business from here.

Well, it's because of this forum I went there. I've ordered plenty stuff before without issue and I don't want to cause them trouble but I am annoyed they sold a service kit that's advertised for my car when the plugs contained aren't suitable. I'd have expected them to accept that and request I send them back.

Will maybe call them again tomorrow and request a return and refund.

You sound a very decent person not wanting to make trouble for them. Their attitude seems to be that they couldn't give a sh1t about you. Personally I would do something about it if it had happened to me. :) Perhaps you should let them know that many members are awaiting the outcome of your situation.

I've spent a lot of money with Island. I've got over three hundred quids worth in a box waiting to be fitted. I order from them trusting that they will supply the correct parts for my car. I'll be very interested in the outcome of this.

Decided to take a look at cyclinder 6 plug.

Lo and behold, it's one of those unsuitable Champion plugs. Also looks like there's been an issue with it. The lead had quite a bit of soot in it that fell out when I pulled it off. Also seems whoever had it in last time mangled the thread a bit too.

Oh the joys!

to be honest with you thst plug looks a good colour but if you have soot on the outside of the plug like that id be checking your manifold n gasket

Soot was inside the lead where it plugs in to the plug. No other soot anywhere else that would indicate the manifold is in any way dodgy.

@josh00mac - it's the only 2 service kits under p38 on their site. Only difference is the size of the air filter.
