Afternoon people, Wondering if anyone can give advice My freelander keeps trying to cut out when up to temperature after lots of research I came to the conclusion it could be the maf sensor. I removed the MAF sensor which did not make any difference on or off so the first ? is , is the MAF working or not also I noticed the white ball thing??? is only connected at one end is the correct thanks in advance:)

Pleas does anyone have any idea or do I have to go and spend out on every sensor that is mentioned in all the forums I have read, was towed home by the AA last week they didn't even bother looking just advised my to put it in a landrover specialist.
 
Not sure if they did fix it as I don't very often drive the car for very long so is wouldn't have got to temperature
 
Sorry to interject, but what thread did you get picture from as I'm having problem in areas circled. I have also lumpy idle when I turn heater on, but not all the time, maybe weather or temp dependant. When I sort it I'll let you know, maybe Mac.
 
I can't remember lol I was looking for the location of the Maf sensor on landyzone and came across it hope that helps

The white thing that isn't connected at one end is a filter, something to do with the turbo. It's meant to be like that.
The rough running may be the fuel pressure sensor, but it could be something else. You may have to take it in and get the computer on it to really know.
 
Just to keep you all updated my landy went on another diagnostics machine today and an error came up for the fuel rail pressure sensor so I have ordered one today fingers crossed. I will keep you updated :rolleyes:

have u got a ptc heater fitted

as when u start the car up it should run around 750 rpm, then when u turn the heater on the revs will drop and go up to around 850 rpm to compensate for the ptc heater which should start to get warm in 2-3 minutes

not sure if i have a ptc heater. its the last of the prefacelift freelander 1s 2003? what should i look for and check re lumpy idle?
 
Hi all thought I would just let you know we changed the fuel rail pressure sensor and it seems to have solved the issue
 
thanks for letting us know, my wife's 1800 freelander at the moment is ruff running when she has first started it up, then it goes away. just can not put my finger on what it is
 
Teddywood1 mine has taken about a year to sort out, am so glad it is. There is alot of talk that the rail sensor can get green stuff around it so worth trying to give it a clean to see if that is the problem before you buy one, I managed to get the rail and sensor for £25 off ebay bargain. Will be looking at selling it now for a smaller car
 
thanks I will look at that only she loves that car it has served well except for the head gasket she had to have done ,with a bad back I could not keep bent over the engine as it is in a low place for long, but she has had the car for years and does not want to part with it I think I may ask the son in law to take a look.
 
Can't say for sure, but diesels are simple beasts. If they get enough air and fuel they run.

Is this roughness at all throttle settings?
Is it on some cylinders only?

Have you had all the air filtration stuff replaced at the last service or is it yonks old?

If it seems to be only one or two cylinders look into the actual injectors. They are the only thing that is cylinder specific.

If it is happening at broad throttle settings it may not be the MAF at all.
