Hi I have a 2001 1.8 petrol engine and I need a rotary contact unit because my horn doesn't work, I can't find one anywhere so if anyone has one or knows where I can get one would be great thanks

Have you tried Land Rover ? ;)

No because I can't afford a mortgage
Lol, I know what you mean, I got one a few months ago from Famous Four, their prices are a little better than Land Rovers but still felt violated !!
A friend of mine is breaking a 1.8, dont know what year it is or if he's got that bit left, will make some enquiries...
I'm assuming you have checked all the other possibilities like the horn itself, the fuse & the relay,

I have checked other bits yes if u could ask for me I would appreciate it thanks

when you put it in make sure the little white square is showing or you will just snap it again

Thanks I will do that, fingers crossed its not too hard to fit! I have a Haynes manual and that is the extent of my mechanical knowledge :D

easy just undo the middle off the steering wheel by undoing the hex bolts one each side
then pull it off, then you need to undo the big nut in the middle and unplugging the wires and then take your steering wheel off and then it is a case of undoing the little screws that hold it on .it has been a long time since I did it but I am pretty sure this is the way as said if the white square is not showing and you put it on as soon as you turn the steering wheel you will snap it . hope this helps

Disconnect your battery & wait half an hour to disarm the SRS system before disconnecting the air bag in the steering wheel, it won't half hurt your ear drums if it goes bang !!

Had a word with my mate who is breaking a 1.8, he wants £25 for it but it looks like you are fixed up,
Best of luck

Just repeating what the Rave manual says, it is possible to set the SRS pyrotecnics off with very low voltages, even the voltage from a multimeter can do it. There are some capacitors built into the system that are designed to fire the bags even if the battery becomes disconnected in the first part of an accident & then there is a subsequent impact, thats why you need to wait half an hour for them to discharge. It only takes a minute to disconnect the battery ;)

Lol !!, didn't mean to scare you, it will be Ok, just re read the Rave manual, it says disconnect BOTH battery terminals starting with the negative & wait 10 minutes not 30, good luck ;)

Where is little white square pls

:behindsofa:

If you look at the face of the cassete you will see a square cut out or window approx. 6-8mm square. when the internal part is rotated there is a white "Patch" that appears in the window.

To centre the rotary coupler, rotate the "Inner" gently clockwise until you feel it go tight then rotate in anti clockwise direction until you see the white "Patch" appear in the window. Make sure the road wheels are pointing straight ahead when you refit the coupler.
