Hang in there and don't get too discouraged. These wonderful trucks are not that complicated. They just take a little patience and some tinkering. Just start with the basics and work away. You will be surprised with how fast it will go. Just keep thinking about how wonderful it will be when you get it out on the trails and how well you will know your truck. I actually ripped my truck apart this summer (started out as an engine rebuild). i am so glad that I did as I now know each and every bolt on the old girl.

Don't get discouraged.

You only need electricity to heat and to crank the motor.

OK, so your battery is shot.

Let's try to start without the electrics.

Find a starting handle and hand crank the engine to ensure it is free and not jammed solid. Otherwise you'll burn up the starter motor.

Get a new one at least 90Ahr rating and connect it up. On the starter motor where the positive battery terminal connects, there will be a set of thick wires. Disconnect these. Now you have isolated the vehicle elctrical system from the battery.

You will see a wire going to the starter motor solenoid. This is the smaller cylidrical unit on the side of the starter motor. Connect another wire to this and keep it near the battery positive terminal. When you contact it to the positive it will crank the engine.

You are ready to crank now.

Put gear into neutral, touch the wire to the positive and the engine will crank.

Try it.

We 'll try priming the injection pump next.

Cheers

When you know if its petrol or diesel and what year it is, I will see if I can prise the dash far enough forward (or backward) to get the camera in. a good colour photo will help more than a thousand words with the wiring? Good luck.

OK time for an update.

After much messing about and complaintd form neighbours this has become way more trouble and stress than i intended. Thanks so much to all that contributed with help and advice, however this project has come to a premature end. evil bay here she comes.

Im sure i will one day own another but probably start with something that is driveable.

Again thanks for all your time
