Hi all,

Does anyone have or know of someone with a roof tent for sale?

It will be for my 1974 88 series. My son and I fancy a bit of off roading and camping in one!

Cheers all

Morning,

Believe it or not, roof tents and laning / off-roading actually don't mix well together, they are brilliant for touring and trips to places like Morocco where you'll need a 4x4 but realistically it is mainly desert driving and alike, but, not for around the UK.

In the UK roof tents on top of a landy end up getting damaged by tree branches and the outer casing / bag thing damaged and ripped and at off-road sites make you top heavy and more likely to roll (I can give you examples of both a 90 rolling due to roof tent at a P&P site and a 110 with roof tent being trashed by lanes!)

That said, if you do want one, keep an eye on eBay and the For Sale section of the forum - they don't come up that often as second hand items, but, if you're in no rush you'll get a bargain.

Make sure you have somewhere dry to store it - you'll not use it as often as you think, but, they are brilliant :)

Thanks. I was more thinking of using in a wood near by, not full on off roading. Thinking my 4 year old son would love sleeping on top of his beloved Landy upon the trees!

There's one on eBay now, but a long way from Cornwall & they're mega bucks new

If you go to any of the bigger landy shows, theres usually a few for sale I think

Hello.

Rather than starting even more topics thought I would follow on from this one.

Was thinking more on the lines of roof racks for series 2 or 3 SWB which can take a roof tent. The roof tent I have has the part that goes over the back door, and has a left to righ mounting system. So ideally like a rack that has front to back rails (like the hanibal ones).

I would prefer to have one that suit the vehicle more than a new powder coated job if possiable. The ones I have seen though all have this cage going around them, which be great at the front but not at the back, as the tent will have to be able to lay flat open.

I suppose cutting one is an option to remove the back cage and maybe some of the sides to if its not wide enough but prefer not to do this.

Just seeing what people have seen, done or even heard of, not looking for anything to fancy or expensive but something that will do the job. Did consider a pair of roof bars, but a rack would have other uses to for me.

Thanks
