Is anything available to extend the roof rack to the full length of the roof?

I'm looking to transport some flat pack in the near future, seems odd that they don't go all the way back but having never transported anything using them perhaps I'm over thinking it?

If you google it there is a some info there most for d2 but there will be something for a d1, also try youtube might be something on there

I don't remember ever needing to extend the roof rack on my D1 when I had it, and I will have transported a lot of moderately heavy and long things up there.
Examples would be 8x4 sheets of ply, a 25' boat mast and several lengths of 4x2 etc. I think I may have put something (rubber, cloth) over the rear roof.
What I do remember is the difficulty of getting stuff up there without serious strain and potential rupture, and the running board collapsing under me while lifting on one occasion. Not at all good, but gaffer tape got me home.

I got some additional roof bars and modded them to fit behind the ones already in place so I could have a full length rack as and when I needed one without the extra height and weight of an expo rack that I used to have on.....

Can remove the cross bars when not in use ;)

as I said, just got additional roof bars, chopped them up and welded on the different half's to make up a roof bar. I then added additional metal to the bars to make them a bit more sturdy and chunky to enable holes to be drilled to mount the cross bars.

Then just line them up on the roof and drilled the holes to mount them. Sealed them all up and jobs a good one - full length rack that doesn't really increase height or weight and cross bars kept under the rear seats with a few ratchet straps in case I ever need them with an impulse buy!!

All in all, was a cheap venture as managed to get the bars from discos that were being broken up, so don't think it was even over £50.00 all in :D

Welding etc is beyond my capabilities at the moment but I'll have a look into it, also wondering if gutter mount ones are available for the rear only.
