Hi can anyone recommend a roof rack that wont break the bank.
Looking for a slimline one if possible.

Oh, and if anyone has one for sale, I'd be interested.
It's to mount a Howling Moon RTT.

I believe this one is available cheap on Amazon.

You have too much time on your hands ;-)
Sorry, old habits die hard.

The pic was already available on the forum. Was posted by @kurtjohnson10 - its his car.

He has a liner for the rack which he fills as like a mini pool and drives around with a bunch of sexy girls in bikinis in it.

Actually, I got that wrong, its not sexy girls, its old grannies :D

Moon on a stick fella ;)
If its for a roof tent thats a fair weight so you really need, cheap, light, low profile. As soon as you say roof rack defender it gets pricey, as soon as you add light it gets worse I am afraid.
For what its worth the RTT will be pretty much your max roof weight from the off so push for as light as you can on the rack and ideally one which spreads the load throughout the roof gutters. Do you need a rack or can you get away with bars. ? They are cheaper and save a huge lot of weight. If money wasnt an issue aluminium would be your friend, a single person can lift an aly rack onto the roof to give you an idea how light.

After the roads were reopened after the Kaikoura earthquake, we ran a trip up there to support the local camp site, pubs, fish and chip shop... They had been hit hard by lack of visitors.

1 of the fellas has a 110 flat deck and put his tent on the deck. At the time I thought that was great and much more practical than a roof top tent, but looking at this pic now, its quite obvious that if you put your tent on the deck, then you can't actually carry much else!

Lovely pics, stunning scenery...its like Wales with the added bonus, less sheep, less rain and no Welsh..... but as I type that NZ is sheepland as well isnt it....
Is that your RR ? Loving the reg lol

Ha " No Welsh" Many of the early emigrants to NZ were from Wales, mostly sailors/whalers and miners, some may even have taken some sheep with them.;)

50 years ago there were 70 million sheep in NZ, now there's probably 20 million - milk solids are more valuable, so everywhere's gone dairy.

Not my RR. I have been for an excursion in it up a riverbed in the middle of nowhere though - an awesome machine.

You could take a pic of a can of paint and it would be stunning if it was sitting on a bench in Kaikoura. Awesome sea life as well. Its known as a whale watching destination... due to a big trench/trough coming down from the pacific forming the ring of fire at this point where the Pacific plate is subducting under the Australasian plate. So 1km off shore the sea is 1km deep and goes much deeper quickly. The whales dive deep, rise up swallowing their food as they go - then put on a show for paying tourists at the surface :D Its also the reason why its "a tad shakey". We stopped off for a picnic there a couple of years ago on our way up to 'The Sounds', sat down and a pod of Dolphins put on a Cirque du Soleil display for us just off the beach - was amazing. Lots of seal colonies there as well. Just north of the township is the Ohau colony. When the parents go off hunting for food, the pups swim/crawl a couple of hundred meters up the Ohau stream and frolic around in the pool at the bottom of a waterfall....

Unfortunately, that quake filled that canyon with rocks, so the seals have lost their playground. I hope 'they' can clear it out and restore it, its awesome to see the little critters playing around there.

The guy I'm buying the Roof tent from recommended Flat Dog.
after a 46 min drive and 30 mins to fit it, happy days.
somebody recommended Hannibal, out of stock, another also recommend Flat Dog and Front Runner.

This was more than I had budgeted but cheaper than most others and could not fault the service.
(and no I'm not on commission ;-)

Take care.... that roof rack isnt straight and your roof gutter is distorting...Not sure which is dragging the other.

Thanks, bloody hell, just got back to this thread somehow didnt gt to stay with it at the time.
I shall have to take a look and adjust if possible.
Having found the previous roof have been damaged and filled it was no surprise to find the gutters cracked and or filed in places.
So this rook is a replacement (wow good ones are getting expensive).

Thanks again for the "Eagle eye".
