I tried to work out the weight distribution, and reckoned that was the best place to spread the weight, as most weight will be 'inside' the frame and not at the edges (front and rear) if that makes sense
just wondered as I'm making up a rack but I carry a lot of planks of wood so have a lot of weight on the front and back rails.....gonna go for sideless I think.......or front and backless at least
I will be looking into spots but first I'm thinking of powdercoating it the same colour as the disco. this will make it look more of a one of for this disco.
Just in the process of making another rack and rang up a local powder coating place near me, and they reckoned around £40-50 to sort it out, but need to see it first for an accurate quote.
Making this one on the style of the American 'Bajarack' rack's so it will sit as low as possible with the roof rails
powder coating my bike frame which was a big frame was around £40 so I would expect the roof rack to cost the same. Powder coating will make it look a lot better, when i did the bike frame it looked great and was very strong coating against all the road stones flying up.
I agree removing the roof rails and lowering the rack would make a very tidy roof rack. i,m hoping to look into this myself before powder coating.
