Hey folks.

Quick question - I'm wanting to install a stereo somewhere in my new 90, and the ceiling seems like a novel place to me. Are there any pre-made single-DIN ceiling boxes anywhere on the web?

I've seen the big ceiling console from Paddocks, but this one is for Defenders without a sunroof.. I have a sunroof.

Anyone ever done anything like this before?

Thanks!

Terrafirma make a roof console that runs from side to side..I don't know if it would be deep enough for a radio, but may be worth a look

I believe the terrafirma console is the same, in that it's designed for roofs without a sun roof. There's a gent that makes replacement headliners (excellent product); one of his designs incorporate a single DIN radio mount. Speakers can be added as well. I'll try to dig up a link, as the name escapes me now.

Or you may be able to get creative with the single dash mount radio housing, and graft it to your existing headliner.

One thing to bear in mind is with a head unit that high up you probably wont be able to see the display. Most modern radio displays are designed to be looked at fairly 'square-on'. Might be worth going to your local Halfords and seeing what the display looks like when viewed from below.

I can't afford this sort of luxury right now... I do like the one with the speaker pods and radio mount moulded in though!

I see what you mean with this.. I'll just have to shop around for the right head unit I think!

I'm thinking now, as my headlining is saggy as... That I'll just pull it all down, cover it in sound-deadedning foam and hope I can mould in some sort of stereo housing like this one.. And then just cover it in that black carpet. Or something.

I don't know...
