Yeah round here no one gives a **** as its an offroader, mine are all wired up to separate switches anyway so they're legit…..moron. If 42" is the max above ground how do trucks get away with roof mounted lights then ?

My roof lights were fitted and wired-up by a mechanic/MOT tester friend of mine... All he said was, "as long as they are on a seperate switch, I dont care how bright they are"
He wired them into the front fog-lights, which I had removed along with the front valance.

when all the insults is finished the legalities are , there is a height restriction, there is a wattage restriction ... these apply to use on road, which includes all tracks that you can legally drive that aint private property....its the vehicle owners decision whether they take the risk of being pulled by plod or vosa.
on a practical note.... how have you run the wires up to your roof lights, the ones ive noticed have either come out the bonnet and been gaffer taped up the outside of the windscreen pillar and look ****e... or have come out a hole drilled in the roof which presumably will eventually leak water in and rot the floor out just like a sunroof does.

Legal if they're on a separate switch though, I'm fitting an isolator switch today so I can either run the lights with main beam or on their own switches. Gonna make it a concealed but easy to reach one just so I can quickly flick it on and off if need be.
Wire wise mine go through the light bar then run tight down the front windscreen pillar all wrapped in one bundle then stuck down with matt black tape. I'm gonna get round to moulding some rubber round it to make it look better but its not dry enough for me to bother yet and in fairness it looks fine for now and it works so I'm not too bothered

If it's any help, or just muddies the water, a friend of mine in Sheffield got stopped because his roof lights were on whilst driving on a road. Because he's a bit of a lippy bastard he ended up being fined £75 for using the lights on a public highway; £120 for using lights exceeding permitted wattage (They were 150w); £120 and 3 points for driving with undue care (I think that was the phrase) as he dazzled other road users,including the Traffic car travelling in the opposite direction . Forgive me if I got the detail wrong but I know for definite he was £750 quid out of pocket (including his solicitors bill) & 3 points down. Having heard the PC (Traffic) give evidence I strongly suspect he would have got away with a caution had he not backchatted the officer. And he was driving a slitty.

Additional lights is how C&U regs describe them. if they're not fitted in accordance with the "spotlamp/driving lamp" rules & regs. not illegal to have them fitted, But not mot'able and not suitable for use on a public highway. Which includes Greenlanes so unless you do night time P&P completely pointless.
However none of the above will prevent me from fitting the light bar to the Disco & having 4@100amp lamps fitted..

i wired my roof lights to the main beam via a relay passed mot the other day no probs live feed from bat to relay - feed from relay to roof lights - remote signal from behind main beam relay bobs ur teapot night sun! great for those bastards that don't dip very rewarding lol ( make sure u have a solid ground on both the lights themselves and on the new relay )
