Anyone know the best place to get a cheap set of roof bars for a p38
new or used

if you mean the original ones that fit into the roof, you'll have to be very lucky to find a decent second hand set for less than about £150 / £200.
Don't know if you can get an aftermarket set that fits the sockets.

Yes thule bars fit the sockets but only cross bars

Just looking for the cheapest option so i can fit my roof box when i go camping

The last set I chased was on the bay breakers wanted £300 for them tolled him he was a greedy robbing barsteward, he said some one will buy them I havnt botherd since

The thule will do what you need look on usual sites for used ones approx £50

Thule will do the cross bars but i found they would not work with my roof box as there are 3 locations in the roof that just did not give the right span to support the box. In the end i opted for getting an original LR roofbar set for about £180 off the bay & gave it a good stripdown & repaint.

This is a tip that I've been selling for a few years. The fittings that are for a Range Rover p 38 are exactly the same as the old Vauxhall Astra. Just rub off the dragon logo and no one would know
Have a few if your interested
