Hallo - getting confused and not got a clear answer yet...

Need to fit some driving lights to the 90, and having looked around have picked up on Roo Lites in terms of cost/quality/spot to wide focus etc.

But. The 170s seem to only come with 100W bulbs, when I thought 55W was max for road use. So does that mean I could fit them (subject to only coming on with main beam), but only use them off road, and not down the roads round here where deer/pheasants/whatever lurk? Or are there 55W bulbs available, and I've just not found them yet?

I was told I could pick up some generic 7", 55W H1 off ebay/wherever and they could be fitted, but am having probs finding something around the £75 each mark. Clearly £25 each will rust/chip/crack etc. And £300 for a pair is a bit out of my budget.

Any advice out there? Cheers, Matt

Legal limit is 55w dip and iirc 60w main. However spot lamps can be pretty much anything. You can have them coming on with mainbeam, but you want to put an isolator switch in, so you can disable them should you want to.

If you want to improve the vehicles headlight ability pick up some 90% brighter standard bulbs or opt for some 80/120w or even 90/130w. Technically the latter aren't legal, but that doesn't mean lots of people don't run them.

As for lamps, personally I'd buy these:

They are available as flood or spot, so the ultimate lighting solution would be 4 lamps, 2 of each kind.

If you have a roll cage you can get them for direct fitting to the cage too: X-eng High Performance Off-Road Engineering
